This is the sage most commonly burned for purposes of spiritual purification. White aromatic leaves that exhibit some antibacterial action; loose panicles of white-to-pale purple flowers. Seeds are the main ingredient in pinole - they are ground and mixed with wheat flour for making biscuits. Prefers well drained soil in full sun. Most references say hardy in zones 9 and 10 - I think that may be able to be stretched a bit. Our plants don't seem to mind temperatures in the mid twenties as long as they aren't soggy. Many of the white aromatic plants from the SW U.S. referred to as smudging sages are in fact Artemisias. This is a true Salvia. 4" pot.
