Source of linen. Earliest cultivated fiber plant - it has been found in archeological digs dating to 30,000 B.C. Its' seed (linseed) is medicinally useful as well as providing the commonly used linseed oil as a solvent for oil-based paints. A poultice of crushed seeds is helpful in the treatment of boils and other inflammations. The seeds contain high amounts of dietary fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, as well as numerous micronutrients. Solitary stems carry alternate narrow leaves about 1 inch long and are topped by turquoise blue flowers. Best planted in masses so that the stems can provide support for each other. National flower of Belarus. Packet(Standard): $3.50; 1/8 oz: $4.50; 1/4 oz: $8.00; 1/2 oz: $12.00; 1 oz: $20.00 - 2,500 seeds/oz
