Henna is native to northern Africa, western and southern Asia. The shiny light green leaves produce the red- orange hair and skin dye(lawsone) and are analgesic and antibacterial. They are also used for skin problems and headaches. Evidence shows it has been used for dyeing for over 6000 years. The showy and fragrant white, pink or red flowers are used to make perfume. A nice tub plant for the north - keep it above 50 degrees and in as much light as possible. Henna trees usually drop their leaves over winter in northern climates but sprout again in the spring. Fast growing.
