Outstanding ornamental annual from the American Southwest. Brilliant maroon leaves and flower bracts are used as a source of red dye and food coloring. Seeds and leaves are used for food in the same manner as those of Amaranthus hypchondriacus. Easy from seed - all the Amaranths are best directly sown outside in the ground where desired.
