White to pink flowers and edible tubers for which it is commonly cultivated in the Orient. One of the few members of the mint family to have tubers. They have a mild sweet flavor and the texture of water chestnuts. Ready for planting or eating. Store in the fridge until you decide what to do with them. Plant anytime the ground isn't frozen in full sun. The richer and looser the soil, the bigger they'll grow and the easier it will be to harvest them. Tubers should be planted 18" apart in rich loose soil in full sun. Commercial growers recommend cutting the tops back to 6" tall before they flower so the plant puts more energy into producing tubers. Each plant can produce 3 - 5 dozen tubers which are harvested in the fall after the tops die down. Any left in the ground will sprout in spring. This listing is for a potted plant - see separate listing for tubers(available from October until they are gone).
