The delicate umbelliferous white flowers are a familiar sight of the roadsides and fields of the Eastern U.S. The central floret is purple rather than white, the legend being that Queen Anne pricked her finger and shed a drop of blood on the plant. First-year roots are white, edible and taste exactly like cultivated carrots hence the name Wild Carrot. Diuretic, bactericidal, hypotensive.
