This plant has a profusion of long stalked clusters of bright yellow flowers, flowering from May to August. The plant's uses include as an astringent, an expectorant, and as a gargle. A brown dye is obtained from the rhizomes, yellow from the leaves and stalk, and a hair bleach from a concentrated extract of the plant. Burning the plant is said to drive off insects.
