The blue-purple flowers grow in dense spikes and have an arrangement of sepals in the shape of a "monk's hood". Prefers cool, moist fertile soil (pH 5-6) in partial shade but will tolerate most soils and full sun. Extremely toxic! Use gloves when working with the roots as the toxins can be absorbed through the skin. Now mainly used in homeopathic remedies.
