Tea made from this is used to aid digestion, circulation and also to increase lactation. Recommended for the plague in the 16th century, as well as smallpox, this plant has been considered a cure-all. Helps detoxify the liver. Used in the liqueur Benedictine. Commonly grown in monasteries - hence the name. This low-growing thistle has red stems, yellow flowers, and weak spines except on the seed pods. Easy from seed.
