The edible flowers are a bright yellow-orange with a continous bloom period from early summer to the first killing frost. Picking the flowers will encourage more blooms. The plant is said to kill soil nematodes. Tinctures and oils made from the flowers are soothing to skin irritations, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, astringent and antiseptic. Used in many cosmetics - skin moisterizers, shampoos, and hair dye. The flowers were used to color butter in the past - a yellow dye is extracted from the petals. Reseeds.
