Tropical tree native to India. Seeds and fruit are the source of neem oil - a popular tool in combating insects. It acts as a repellant, egg laying deterrent, causes insects to stop feeding, and prevents insect eggs from hatching. Neem oil(and other parts of the tree) have a long tradition of use in Ayurvedic medicine as antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, contraceptive and antidiabetic. It is also widely used in the cosmetics industry in soaps, shampoo, lotions, etc. The flowers are used in curries and honey production. Needs warmth(60 degrees) over the winter in less than tropical climates but can make a nice(large) house plant.
