Companion Plants: About Us

Companion Plants is an internationally recognized herb nursery established in 1982 and located in the scenic rolling hills just outside Athens, Ohio. We offer over 600 varieties of common and exotic herb plants ? including medicinal, culinary, ceremonial, aromatic, butterfly, fiber, and dye plants ? as well as over 200 varieties of seed, most of which we grow ourselves using environmentally friendly methods.

We strive to keep a full inventory of our plants available year round, but you?ll find the greatest selection of plants at the greenhouses from April through June. The display beds look their best during those months, and continue their show through at least the first frost. We have an acre or so of display beds and seed crop beds, which visitors are encouraged to wander through. There is always someone on hand to answer questions. There are always plant varieties available at the greenhouse which are not listed in our catalogue, as well as mature plants in larger containers.

We welcome group tours. If we have advance notice, we can arrange for informal guided tours of our display beds.

We carry hundreds of common and not-so-common live plants, herb seeds, and roots.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, cash and personal checks.

Phone Hours: March - October: 10 am - 5 PM, Thursday - Tuesday
November - February: 10 am - 5 PM, Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.

Greenhouse/gardens hours: Thursday - Saturday, 10 - 4. Call or email for appointments outside of thosed days/times and curbside pick-up.

We are closed on most national holidays, August 1st - 14th, and Wednesdays.
