16" long fleshy purple-mottled leaves form a rosette from which a flower stalk grows to 15'. Tubular flowers are greenish white to yellow. The root has been used to treat dropsy, snakebite, diarrhea, and worms. Flowers attract hummingbirds and Sphinx Moths. Great drought tolerant specimen plant. Prefers dry soil but ours seems tolerant of our clay soils. Found from Ohio to S. Illinois south to Florida and Texas. Also goes by Agave virginica.
