Longevity: HP (zones 4 to 9) |
Leguminous native herb with the typical compound leaf structure of this family. Eye catching clusters of showy yellow flowers in July-August followed by flattened dark seed pods. Seeds are attractive to wild Turkeys and other birds. Good for the wild border or planted in a large clump. Plants are generally not bothered by deer since the leaves are strongly laxative. Host plant for the Sleepy Orange and various Sulfer butterflies. Prefers moist rich soil but once established is quite drought tolerant.
