Hardy mat forming native of the Eastern US. Easily established, large bright yellow flowers in spring are followed by edible reddish fruits. The pads themselves are edible when peeled but are covered in clusters of tiny glochids - minute bristle-like barbed hairs. Gloves are definitely recommended. Prefers sandy or rocky soil but in our experience they root and grow wherever the deer, dogs or people kick them. We have clay soil.
