Commonly planted as a showy ornamental, Black-eyed Susans are a North American native. Vibrant yellow, 2-3 in. wide, daisy-like flowers with dark centers give it its name. Stems and leaves are greyish green with small hairs, giving it a rough texture. Its flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies, and during the winter the dead flower heads provide seeds for birds. Blooms from June-October. Great for cut flowers, borders or containers. Average height 1-3 feet, spread 12-18 inches wide. Hardy in zones 3-9. Dormant November - March.
