The most common culinary Thyme. Principal source of thymol - used in medicines as well as perfumes. Before antibiotics bandages were soaked with thymol to cut down on infections. Egyptians used Thyme in embalming. Romans flavored cheeses and liquors with it. It was commonly burned in buildings to purify them. Prefers poor dry soil - very drought tolerant. Upright variety with lavender flowers.
