This E. Asian Angelica has baseball-sized rich purple flower clusters. The flower stems are purple as well. These develop in the second year of growth; the first year there is an impressive display of vivid dark-green leaves. One of several Angelica species from China referred to as Dong Quai. Traditionally it has been used to treat anemia, pain and rheumatism. Recent studies show it has great promise in treating a number of different cancers due to the decursin found in it's root. Prefers rich damp soil in part shade.
