Longevity: HP (zones 3 - 9) |
A Chinese native with a long history of medicinal use, mainly as a brain tonic, memory aid and to enhance blood flow(leaves). The stinking fruits of the female tree contain a nut considered to be a delicacy in China and Japan. Ours are started from seed, so the sex of these seedlings is unknown. They do not flower until they are 20 years old or so, at which point they may be 35 feet tall. A very attractive and useful tree in the landscape. They are tolerant of pollution and confined soil spaces and so are useful in urban plantings. Leaves turn a brilliant yellow in the fall - it's not uncommon for a Ginkgo tree to drop all of it's leaves in a single day in the fall. These are sturdy third year seedlings in 4"x14" tree pots, 15 - 20" tall.
