Found in marshes and wet meadows in our area; a tea from the root has been used as a diuretic, laxative, carminative, a heart tonic, to treat asthma, rheumatism, and syphilis. An attractive plant with smooth dark green lance-shaped leaves contrasting with umbels of deep rose flowers. This plant, like all the Asclepias, is very attractive to butterflies - especially the Monarch and Queen.
