Like V. thapsus the leaves contain small amounts of roetenone and coumarin and are smoked to suppress spasmodic coughs and asthma. Leaf and flower tea are diuretic, expectorant, demulcent, antibacterial, and antispasmodic. Leaf poultices are used to reduce pain, swelling, and fevers.
