Showy, tall Mullein from Greece (Mt. Olympus), Northern Turkey. Large rosettes of 2' or longer pointed leaves not quite as fuzzy as V. thapsus the first year; the second year it puts up an impressive multi-branched flower stalk. If one is harvesting flowers for medicine, this is the one you want. And the bees (and other pollinators) will think they've died and gone to Mt. Olympus! Like V. thapsus the leaves contain small amounts of roetenone and coumarin and are smoked to suppress spasmodic coughs and asthma. Leaf and flower tea are diuretic, expectorant, demulcent, antibacterial, and antispasmodic. Leaf poultices are used to reduce pain, swelling, and fevers. Flowers soaked in oil are used to treat earaches and hemorrhoids. Standard packet - $3.50; 1/8 oz - $8.00; 1/4 oz - $15.00; 1/2 oz - $28.00; 1 oz - $54.00; Approx. 250,000 seeds per oz.
