Fall blooming source of Saffron. The red-orange stigmas found in the center of 2" pale lavender flowers, are the part harvested. This must be done by hand, which contributes to making this the world's most expensive spice. Hardy to zone five, Saffron is easy to grow and the bulbs multiply quickly. Summer dormant, the grass-like leaves appear in early fall and die back before mid winter. Needs well-drained soil; planting instructions sent with order. 12 bulbs per order.
