A native of dry woods, with oregano-scented leaves and delicate pink/purple flowers. It makes a nice tea and has been used to treat colds, fevers, and to induce perspiration and menstruation. Used in Native American smoking blends. In early spring look for fairy skirts early in the morning when night temps are just below freezing. As the roots stir in anticipation of spring, they give off volatile gases which rise and freeze around the past years dead stalks an inch or so above the ground forming white icy disks from 1" to 3" wide. Quite a site when it covers an entire hillside. American Dittany.
