Native to swampy areas, it also does well in ordinary garden soil. Blue-violet sepals. Formerly used to stimulate the pancreas and liver, it can cause rashes (handling the roots) and vomiting (when ingested). But it is pretty! A poultice of crushed boiled root was used to treat burns, bruises, swellings and sores. Widely utilized by Native Americans.
