Native to East Asia, this is a well known house/garden plant. Thick fuzzy green to reddish leaves with silver veining and purplish undersides. Multiple stalks with multitudes of delicate 5 petelled flowers rise above the foliage. In Asia it has a long history of use in treating earaches, hemorrhoids, headaches, general weakness, and vomiting. The plant contains Quercetin which shows cancer-fighting promise. In Japan the leaves are eaten cooked or raw in salads. Good dense groundcover in damp shady areas as it spreads by stolons.
