Small tree from Australia. Aromatic leaves yield Tea Tree Oil which is antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. Commercially grown mainly in New South Wales the distilled oil is used in the perfume industry, in soaps, mouthwashes, toothpaste, and skin care products, including preparations to treat athlete's foot and acne. Indigenous uses include treating coughs, sore throats and colds with leaf tea. Easy-to-grow container plant in the north - keep it from freezing, give it lots of sun and keep it on the dry side over winter. During the growing season it can take lots of water(it's native to swampy areas) and can be pruned as much as needed.
