Once thought to be a distinct species this is now considered a (usually sterile)hybrid with it's parents being M. aquatica/Water Mint and M. spicata/Spearmint. Makes delicious tea; good for headaches, upset stomachs and irritable bowel syndrome. The most popular mint flavor for toothpastes, ice creams, candies and gums. In aromatherapy it is used to boost memory and mental alertness. A traditional staple of herbal medicine in many cultures and countries. Dark stems, excellent flavor. Popular variety used for the commercial production of essential oil.
