This plant has dark green leaves with purple veining; the stems, flowers and flower spikes are also purple. While it does flower, it is a sterile hybrid and doesn't set seed. Propagated by cuttings, once it flowers it just keeps getting larger and putting out more leaves. The whole plant has a warm sweet camphor scent and is often as wide as it is tall. A stunning ornamental specimen, it is also a good culinary Basil. This is our own hybrid introduced in 1982. We found one volunteer specimen between beds of Opal Basil and Camphor Basil before we were aware how easily Basils can cross pollinate...
