This is a native grass, quite ornamental with its flattened seed heads which are nice in dried arrangements. The seeds can be cleaned and eaten or ground into flour. Similar to Sea Oats, but smaller - often sold as Northern Sea Oats. Naturally found along river banks, it prefers damp soil in partial shade but will tolerate both full shade and full sun. Nice clump-forming specimen plant, the seed heads attract various birds as well as several Skipper butterfly species.
