Attractive yellow flowered multi-branched shrub to 3 feet across. Grey/green trifoliate leaves are attractive to the caterpillars of several butterfly species. The plant(root, leaves) exhibits strong antibacterial, antiviral and immune system stimulating properties. It yields a yellow and a weak blue dye. Prefers a loose rich well drained soil and once established is quite drought tolerant. Dried branches are said to repel flies, hence the common name Horsefly Plant. Host plant for the Frosted Elfin and Wild Indigo Duskywing butterflies. Nitrogen fixer. Native to much of the Eastern US.
