One of the coolest looking plants in our catalog! Large 10"W x 24"L fuzzy green purple-tinged leaves with prominent purple veins. Caressing the leaves is discouraged by small spines on the leaf veins. 1 1/2" pale lilac star-shaped flowers are followed by 2-3" edible fuzzy orange fruits (naranjilla means little orange). Said to be the most popular native fruit in the Andes. Used as juice and to flavor ices. Tastes like our native Groundcherry(Physalis sp.). Not conducive to commercial cultivation since the ripe fruits don't store or ship well. Likes fertile well drained moist soil.
