This is an attractive erect shrub with bright green oblong leaves and bright yellow flowers in many-flowered panicled racemes. The flowers yield a bright yellow dye; combined with woad it gives a green. Medicinally it has been used to treat skin diseases. Diuretic, emetic and cathartic. Fast-growing and showy.
