Said to be anti-spasmodic and nervine as well as combatting intestinal worms. One of the easiest and showiest of our native wildflowers for moist areas with numerous spikes of red flowers. Attractive to hummingbirds; various Swallowtail butterflies feed on the nectar. Thought to be an aprodisiac by the Meskwakis. Prefers a damp rich soil but will do fine in average garden soil.
