This N. Asian species is hardy and vigorous for us - (we're between zones 5 & 6). It tends to have a procumbent (trailing) habit, and has climbed all over our 5' tall hardy cholla. It's high ephedrine content makes it a useful broncho-dilator and is valued in Chinese medicine almost as much as E. sinica. As with all our ephedras, it needs a sandy, well drained soil. 4" pots.
